Here in Good old Springfield Missouri we have a thriving Eat/Buy Local Movement. For years we have had the Greater Springfield Farmers Market it is a temporary out door market set up 2 times weekly at one of our large Malls. within the last year a move has been made to take the Greater Springfield FM to the Center City on 1 week night durring spring summer and fall, in addition to the already thriving Mall location. We also have the C-Street Market on Commercial Street every Saturday morning. About a year ago the Eastland FM started up. It would be a permenant market with some inside booth space but has been having a little trouble getting vendors and costomers there at the same time. I just heard with in the last couple of weeks that a promenent business man in Springfield is attemptilng to get land in another corner of the city for another FM. This one would also have permenant booth spaces and out door ampa theater. This would all be great news if we had enough good farmers available to sell at each market, but we don't.
My wife and I have sold tomato and pepper plants at the C Street Market and this is a great market for what I would call hobby growers. The GSFM is a great location for full scale farmers that have much to sell. But the rest of the markets are strugling.
We also have several up start markets such as the WELL FED NEIGHBOR store and a half dozen others that sell fresh local produce.
It seemes to me that things are growing to fast for everyone to make it I hope the bubble doesn't break. How are your citys for FMs and Local food.
