  If you had two separated 3 acre flat pastures with irrigation already installed, what would you plant?  Its in sunset zone 23, and has streams running alongside both pastures...

  Oh that sounds really nice. I live in so cal, but near the coast. I am not sure where zone 23 is. I know I would plant lots of herbs, tomatoes, potatoes, melons and corn. All that stuff that takes a lot of room. I hope you enjoy yourself!!!

  I am on Colorado on one acre, a very dry acre. I wish we had water on it as I would grow lots of fruit trees and tons of veggies.

  Try to see if your property rights include well digging, if they do I would advise  trying to get one.  Also with a well permit in colorado you can have rain collection barrels on your land.  Good luck jeanine!

  You mean in Colorado if you own property you can't just drill a well? Here in Missouri if you buy property you can get the water thats under the property and anyone can have a rain barrel for gosh sakes. I would move!

  Hey Bill, In Colorado technically you can't even catch rain water from your roof. So far the government has not made an issue of home owners catching rain water but they could if they wanted. It's all a part of the Colorado water rights squabble. If water is prevented from flowing down the Colorado river it's stealing water from those that live down stream. Utah and Washington are two more states where there are laws against catching rain water that falls on your property. Kind a weird huh.

  I knew that you couldn't float some streams because land owners own to the middle of them, in Colorado. Here in Missouri all streams that can support a canoe can legally be floated. Land owners own the land up to the waters edge and can post their property but its still legal to camp on the gravel bars at water level. I can't imagne not being able to collect rain water, that seems like a God Given Right!
